Episode 1227: Reach Out

“You and I are going to figure this out,” Lucy said. “You’re going to gather up all the work you’ve done and all the feedback you’ve received from your professors, and we’ll go over it all together, work out how you can go about it differently. I’m sure it will only take little tweaks here and there and you’ll regain your confidence and your footing. Think of it as a battle plan, something you’ll be armed with so you have a basic idea of how to handle any academic assignment or test, no matter what’s thrown at you.”

“That sounds perfect,” Xavier enthused. “You’ll feel better about your classes.”

“It would be a relief,” Tansy agreed. “But I’m not sure it’s possible. I might need more than some little tweaks. I might not be college material at all and you’ll have invested your free time in me for nothing, Lucy. I can’t ask you to do that, it would be like saddling you with another impossible job on top of the job you already have.”

“Don’t write yourself off before we’ve even given this a try, Tansy. I know how smart you are,” Lucy said. “I believe this is just a matter of coming at this from another angle, a more accessible angle designed specifically for you.”

“But it could end up being a lot of time and effort that you shouldn’t have to spend on me,” Tansy agreed. “You could be going on dates, enjoying hobbies, whatever.”

“I’m a first class nerd,” Lucy said. “Study strategies and learning have always been one of my favorite activities, I’m excited about diving into this and using my stash of stationary and school supplies when I was in school I never met a subject I couldn’t efficiently break down and make better sense of in my own way. I enjoy this and we’ll figure it all out, how you learn best and how we can best relay what you learn to your professors. And, if it will make you feel better about my dating life, if he’s so inclined, Xavier can hang out, sharpen our pencils, make snacks and do whatever other bidding our finely oiled study machine could need.”

“I’m game if you are, Tans,” Xavier said. “Can’t say I was that devoted to study so I’ll be curious to see how it’s actually done.”

“Okay, then,” Tansy agreed. “But if it ends up being a burden for you guys, if you have other stuff you need to do, you have to promise you’ll just tell me.”

“We will, but I don’t think that will happen. I personally can’t think of a better use of my time,” Lucy promised. These days she was game for anything that would occupy her mind, anything that steered her thoughts away from the impending custody case for her daughter, the custody case she had no part in.
