Sarandon's Claire Vision

Susan Sarandon is looking for a career change—at least a temporary one. The Oscar-winning Dead Man Walking actress, who'll next be seen starring opposite pal Julia Roberts in Stepmom, will be guest editor of Marie Claire's January 1999 issue, says USA Today.

Sarandon, a fixture at the New York runway shows, will be in charge of editorial content for the issue, which hits stands Dec. 8. "Susan has a great sense of style, a sense of humor, and a sense of justice.… Her intelligence and integrity make her the ideal guest editor," Glenda Bailey, the mag's editor in chief, tells the paper. The actress says she's excited about creating an issue "that will reflect my beliefs and interests."

Sarandon follows in the footsteps of such stars as Gwyneth Paltrow, who guest edited the January of 1998 issue of Marie Claire (and spent several days alone on a deserted island as part of the bargain), and Roseanne, who consulted a few years ago on a special issue of The New Yorker. These days, having a magazine credit seems to be the latest must-have credential, sort of like working in a Woody Allen movie. The paper says that the September issue of Jane, which is out Aug. 11, is also a star-studded effort, with George Clooney, Halle Berry, Mariah Carey, R.E.M., Naomi Campbell, and Yasmine Bleeth among the celebrity contributors. Some of the highlights: Ben Stiller interviews his There's Something About Mary amour, Cameron Diaz, and Hanson, with Isaac behind the wheel, test drives the new Volkswagen Beetle.

And in still more celebrity magazine news, the WB's Joshua Jackson, a.k.a. Pacey on Dawson's Creek, and Shannen Doherty, who'll soon be seen in Charmed, will co-host Seventeen: The Faces of Fall, part of a new deal between the teen magazine and the network, says Daily Variety. The one-hour special, which is set to hit airwaves Sept. 8, is the first in a series of shows. Along with celebrity appearances by WB stars, the specials will let you know "what's hot" next season in entertainment, music, fashion, and sports.
