The Baby Driver star’s nails are trimmed, buffed and polished on a regular basis and one day at the salon, he had the opportunity to meet the sporting great. “I had my nails painted,” he explains to Esquire while talking about a recent trip to the manicurist. “My dad needed a pedicure, so we went there together and I got them done. “There was this woman there, she had seen Baby Driver, and she said, ‘You might know my husband – his name is Wayne Gretzky. He’s coming to pick me up for lunch’. So I was getting my nails painted, and then Wayne Gretzky came, and I couldn’t shake his hand because my nails were still drying.” Ansel has become quite the metrosexual, who also thinks carefully about his clothing choices – something that served him well while he was filming drama The Goldfinch, playing the son of a terrorist attack victim. “I wore these bespoke suits (and) I felt that (the) character (Theodore Decker) was taking over my life,” he shares. “I needed to remind myself that I was this colourful kid and not this dark, depressing guy. So I would wear this purple jacket from Canada Goose and Opening Ceremony. It was nice to put on my clothes at the end of the day and know I could go home and go to sleep as myself.”
