Great One not ready to be an owner

Wayne Gretzky says owning a hockey team might be fun -- someday, but not now. Gretzky was approached by a group of investors that is looking to buy the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes but said no, The Arizona Republic reported Saturday. Gretzky told the Republic that other teams also have mentioned such possibilities to him but that "at this point and time, it's not the right time. ... I was pretty honest and blunt with all the teams, that at this point and time in my life, I don't think it's a right fit," he said. Gretzky, the NHL's career scoring leader with 894 goals and 2,857 points, has said he'd like to spend at least a year, maybe two, away from the game after retiring last season. He also said he finds the idea of running a professional sports franchise exciting. Fellow Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux purchased the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins last summer.
