Coach’s Corner: Eric Lindros should be in the Hall of Fame Don Cherry has a message for the Hockey Hall of Fame: Induct Eric Lindros, already. In Saturday’s edition of Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada, Cherry listed the the reasons why he thinks the retired NHLer needs to be in the Hall of Fame, and why it’s a huge oversight. “When he was a junior player, he played for Oshawa, he won the Memorial Cup; he was player of the year in junior; at 18 years old he played in the Canada Cup and when they won, he was a force; 760 [NHL] games, 875 points; 53 playoff games, he got 57 points; Legion of Doom, [Mikael] Renberg and [John] LeClair, a highest-scoring line maybe of all time; most dominant player for five years; seven times an All-Star; NHL MVP, the Hart Trophy; top scorer in the NHL, the Art Ross; two [World Junior Championships] golds; captain of the Olympics; and when he retired, he gave $5 million to the hospital,” said Cherry. “And he isn’t in the Hall of Fame. “What are they smoking at that Hall of Fame?” Cherry brought up the topic ahead of the Rogers Hometown Hockey stop in Oshawa on Sunday, where Lindros played junior hockey with the Generals.
