How beautiful she’d looked in her wedding dress, and the bright light in her expression when he took her hands at the altar. How right it had felt to be just the two of them there with little Shelby the cat curled up, immediately snoozing at their feet.It hadn’t even mattered that they’d gone the Vegas route, all that mattered was they were in love and in that moment they’d loved each other enough to promise for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as they lived. They hadn’t been married all many weeks yet and already he’d overused the word wife, he popped it into every sentence with her, he couldn’t help it, it just felt so good, like finally, everything was settled, he didn’t have to worry about losing her. Just thinking about it made him smile though his timing wasn’t fantastic, as just then he realized Bowie was standing in front of him. While they’d kept their families in the dark, not wanting the hassle about when they would have a proper wedding until the time was right to do so, they had told Bowie and Lila so their friends wouldn’t feel constant guilt over the postponement. Still, just because they knew about the happy occasion, it didn’t mean Bas felt comfortable about rubbing his happiness in the guy’s face. “Hey, sorry about that,” he waved a hand where his smile had been. “If you’re lucky enough to have a good day, don’t apologize for it,” Bowie said. “You’re a newlywed, that should be a happy time. I never found him.” Yeah, there’d been that sighting the day of their interrupted wedding, but he was pretty sure it had been his imagination working overtime. Ava’s dad had people on it, and so far they’d come up empty. “I don’t know where he is and you’d better not suggest to Ava that I do.” It would be easy enough for her to believe he’d kept her in the dark like that, it’s something he would have done in the past. Suddenly his marital bliss was in danger of becoming not so blissful. “Where is this coming from? Why are you asking about him?” “I don’t want to think about him any more than you do, but he… he’s Jesse’s biological father, he might be able to save Jesse’s life.”
