Episode 737: Closer To You

Caroline frowned at him. "You already said that at school today."

"It’s still true." Even more so inside his actual home. It had been so long, and she looked so pretty just standing there. "Do you want something to eat or drink, we-"

"I’m just here to pick up the final wave of Charlie’s campaign posters. You know that." He did. They’d made plans. Then he’d made his own plans.

"Yeah, so um," he said, "about the posters, they’re not finished."

"But you promised! You know how much this means to Charlie. You were the one so vehement that original art on the posters would be more memorable for the final push for votes. How could you be this much of a jerk? How could you purposely sabotage him? Do you honestly think I would dump someone for being a loser?"

"The exact opposite. I know my one tiny shot with you is if he does win. I know there’s no way you’ll dump him if he’s already down. I’m as interested in Charlie winning as he is."

"If that’s true, then why haven’t you finished -" She paled. "Have you been sick again?"

"No. I’m fine. I swear it." Mostly fine. Fingers crossed. "The posters have just been more time consuming than I thought they would be, and Nate has homework, he’s studying in his room right now, so I’m on my own with this." Jesse didn’t have that much homework, he’d offered to work on the posters, but Jesse had another idea.

"Come with me," Jesse said, leading her into the kitchen. "You’ll see, I really have been working on them." He gestured to the stack of posters on the table. "They just need to be colored. Hey, you know, if you’re not busy you could help and they’d be done in half the time."

"This reeks of a set-up to spend time alone with me." Caroline glared at him. He thought for sure she’d walk away. "Okay. I’ll do it, but only because I want Charlie to win, not so I can feel okay about dumping him."
