Jason Gedrick got his first acting break in his native Chicago when the film “Bad Boys,” starring Sean Penn, was filmed on location there. He landed a role as an extra -- and Penn’s encouragement inspired him to study acting in earnest.

Gedrick’s leading roles in feature films include “Iron Eagle,” “Stacking” and “Heavenly Kid.” He also co-starred with Meg Ryan and Kiefer Sutherland in “Promised Land,” and in Ron Howard’s “Backdraft” and “Crossing the Bridge.” He simultaneously pursued theater, starring on Broadway in “Our Town” opposite Don Ameche and Helen Hunt, as well as in the off-Broadway production of “Mrs. Dally Has a Lover” with Judith Ivey.

In the 1996 and 1997 television seasons, Gedrick starred as the murder defendant Neal Avedon in Stephen Bochco’s “Murder One” and then went on to star in the critically acclaimed series “EZ Streets,” opposite Ken Olin and Joe Pantoliano. Gedrick’s longform television credits include the highly rated miniseries “The Last Don” with Danny Aiello and Joe Mantegna. In 1998, he reprised his starring role in “The Last Don II.”

Gedrick will next be seen in the independent film “One-Eyed King” (directed by Bobby Moresco) which will be released theatrically in Spring 2003. He just completed shooting on the feature “Jesus, Mary, & Joey,” where he plays one of the title characters, Joey Cappaccino, opposite Olympia Dukakis and Marley Shelton.

Gedrick is the father of three sons, Jian, Ty and Garrett. His birthday is February 7.
